Healthy Snacks for the Office Worker

By on August 16, 2014

Ahhh the Cube Life. While it is both a curse and a blessing it is undeniably difficult to stay healthy with all those darn vending machines and temptations. Lucky for you, we have compiled five grab and go snack ideas to keep you healthy from 9-5.

ONE

Dried Blueberries – Dried blueberries are a great way to add a fruit to your daily snack routine but proceed with caution. Dried blueberries contain all the antioxidant goodness of their fresh counterparts but with more calories and sugar per ounce due to the drying process. With that in mind, you will want to measure your blueberries before you get to the office and make sure you buy a brand without added sugar. We suggest Nature’s All Foods.

TWO

The Pure Bar – When eating grab and go snacks you want to try to keep processing to a minimum. Pure Bar has a delightfully short ingredient list. My favorite Pure Bar has just 3 “pure” ingredients = blueberries, almonds, and cashews. The best part? They are certified organic, gluten-free, non-GMO, and vegan.

THREE

Yum Nuts Easy Cajun – These nuts are the perfect blend of Cajun spice and sweet cashews and each bag has 5 servings for multiple snacking experiences.

FOUR

pepitosPepitas – Pepitas or pumpkin seeds can be eaten cooked or raw. You can buy pepitas in bulk in the nut section of your local Whole Foods store. Pepitas are a good source of protein, zinc, iron, and magnesium. They contain 30% of the daily recommended intake of Vitamin B3, 62% DRI of Iron, 155% the DRI of Magnesium, and 80% the DRI of Zinc in a 3.5oz serving. Power food!

FIVE

The banana – I know it isn’t as sexy as Yum Nuts or Pepitas but bananas are a great snack to stash in your desk. They keep, they don’t need to be washed, and provide energy.

What are your favorite desk snacks?
