doTerra vs Smiley Daisy Essential Oil Diffuser

By on May 8, 2015

I recently went to a doTerra show and walked away with a few oils but I was hesitant to drop 60+ dollars on a diffuser being a newbie to the oil world and all. My frugal side forced me to come home and do a little net research which led me to the Smiley diffuser. My mother actually owns the real deal (doTerra) so I thought it would be interesting to compare the two.

Is the doTerra diffuser worth the money?

Smiley diffuserMy mother has an older version of the doTerra’s Aroma Lite, which is considered by most to be doTerra’s best-seller. I have Smiley Daisy’s “The Daisy” (pictured to the left).

Cycle Function

The Aroma Lite can run continuously for either 4 or 8 hours or intermittent (run 15 seconds, stop 15 seconds), depending on the setting that you choose. On the other hand, The Daisy runs 6-7 hours. You an set the Daisy to run continuously or intermittent (run 30 seconds, stop 30 seconds).

Both diffusers can automatically shut off when the water runs out which is an awesome feature that protects your diffuser from burning out.

Coverage Area and Features

DoTerra’s Aroma Lite can cover 500 square feet. That’s a whole lot of space compared to The Daisy’s 200 sq. ft coverage.

Now, let’s talk about the extras.

Both diffusers double as beautiful, color-changing, LED lights. Smile Daisy has put an effort into making their Essential Oil Diffuser a home accessory. Aside from its accented, water drop design, The Daisy is able to change its LED light color, setting a cool, relaxed mood. But don’t worry, if you can’t sleep well with a the lights on, The Daisy has a separate light control button that allows it to diffuse oils without the light feature present.

On the other hand, doTerra focused more on making an efficient Essential Oil Diffuser. Aroma Lite was made to run silently. I can attest that the Smile Daisey does make a sound as it diffuses oil. This doesn’t bother me, but some have complained that the noise created can disrupt sleep. It also has an optional night-light that you can turn on to get better sleep.

Also, both diffusers provide a cool mist spray.

The Aroma Lite wholesales for $89.95.

The Daisey for 44.97.

The Aroma wins in that it covers a larger area and runs quietly. However, for the half the price The Daisey is a serious contender.

Other Diffuser Options

The doTerra Petal Diffuser might be more comparable to the Smiley Daisey. The Petal is $47.00 which is priced just above The Daisey. The Petal covers a smaller area at around 150 square feet. However, the Petal runs 4 hours vs The Daiseys 6-7 hours.
