Onion Chips!

Onion chips are one of my favorite snacks. To make onion chips follow these steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees
  • Cut off the top and bottom of the onion.
  • Peel off the onion paper
  • Slice the onion in half across the equator
  • Slice each half into quarters

You now have 8 sections of onion. Pull apart all of the pieces and lay them flat on a cookie sheet. Season them as you would a chip and bake them for 40 minutes. They should be a little blackened but also delicious.

Tomatoes with Guacamole

Yet another chip substitute. I love a good guacamole but don’t always want to eat a bag of chips. Instead choose a firm red tomato and cut it into slices. Cover each slice with your favorite guacamole and enjoy.

Blackberries with Almond Butter

A small teaspoon of almond butter with berries can be a deliciously sweet combo in the summer. In the winter you may want to switch to apples and almond butter or another in-season fruit.

Veggie Sticks with Hummus

Hummus is good with pretty much every vegetable that can be cut into a stick. I like to use carrots, radishes, and pepper slices.

Veggie Juice

Veggies juice can make an excellent on-the-go snack. Make sure that the juice has around 100 calories, low sugar, and that the first three ingredients listed on the label are vegetables. I suggest also eating a few almonds to give you the fiber and fat needed to absorb all the nutrients within your juice.

One half cup of edamame makes a wonderful day-time snack. They can be eaten alone or with a light seasoning.

Greek Yogurt

I prefer to use Greek Yogurt as another on-the-go snack. You can get really fancy with Greek Yogurt or you can pick up a pre-mixed treat like Key Lime or Black Cherries by Fage.

Organic Turkey Jerky

There are times with nothing will do but something meaty and salty. I would choose turkey jerky as an occasional snack but turkey jerky provides plenty of protein in a low fat package.

Unsalted Pretzels and Whole Grain Mustard

Newman’s Own Organics makes a lovely Spelt Pretzel with organic spelt flour, spelt flour, organic sunflower oil, salt, yeast, and soda. Combined with a little whole grain mustard? Outstanding!

Homemade Popcorn

You can pre-pop and bag popcorn for a quick grab and go snack. Sprinkle your popcorn with a little nutritional yeast.
